You can consider 欲しい (ほしい) is the equivalent to “to want” in English. 欲しい is an i-adjective. ～ほしい (Hoshii) is used to express the speaker’s wishes or desires using nouns.
Noun + が + ほしい
Examples:
わたしは 辞書 が ほしいです。
I want a dictionary.
何 が ほしいですか。
What do you want?
カメラ が ほしいです。
I want a camera.
自転車 が ほしいですか。
Do you want a bicycle?
いいえ、ほしくありません。(～ほしくない)
No, I don't want.
You can conjugate “ほしい” to a certain extent as follows;
Present tense ～ほしい
Past tense ～ほしかった
Negative Present tense ～ほしくない
Negative Past tense ～ほしくなかった
